ARE YOU EXPERIENCING DRUG RELATED ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR |
What is Anti-social behaviour? Drug Dealing/Drug related ASB Drug dealing is an offence and will be dealt with as such, but it is also known under the banner of Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) as it contributes to many different problems in our society and communities. To find longer-term solutions to this type of serious offence the police need to consult with partners to consider both the victims, offenders and locations, and how each can be addressed to reduce and prevent further offences. Advice for the public If any needles or drugs paraphernalia are found, then contact the local authority for safe disposal. You can report drug related activity to the police or anonymously via Crimestoppers. Actions for police to consider
Premises Closure Orders: An Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) closure order can be used at a location where there is persistent ASB or criminality which is having a significant impact on the community and this behaviour or criminality can directly be attributed to this address. Hampshire and IOW Constabulary or the relevant Local Authority can close a property or location down, either in full or partially, to reduce the impact the address is having on the wider community. Please note - housing associations cannot currently apply for Closure Orders and as such often seek our assistance with their problem premises. Closure Orders are initially granted for 3 months however this can be extended for a further 3 months with permission from the issuing Magistrates Court. The purpose of having a closure order in place it to provide respite to the wider community. A closure order is not a long-term solution to an ongoing problem however it can form part of the problem-solving process. When applying for a closure order we must consider what we are going to do once it has been granted.
West Wight Neighbourhood Policing Team has recently issued 3 of these orders in Newport.
